A New Method of Operation for Pterygium

Abstract
|
|
|
This communication is concerned with a new method of operation for pterygium of which the author has had experience in over 2,000 cases of the various types of pterygia. Post-operative recurrence was few and the cosmetic end-result is satisfactory so far.
In order, to avoid the recurrence of the pterygium, the technique is much improved. The characteristics of the method are as follows
a. The removal of the pterygium is complete combined with the extensive excision of the subconjunctival tissue up to beneath the plica semilunaris. No suture is put on any places around the exposure sclera.
b. The temporary lateralization of the eye-ball at, least for 48 hours by means of a traction suture is of important.
